It is based on polished stainless steel shafts individually powered by flexible belts on a line shaft or by a continuous chain. These stainless steel shafts are covered with segmented, loose-fit rollers, which become the conveyor surface.

It is the weight of the product being conveyed combined with the coefficient of friction between the shafts and the inside diameter of the rollers that provides the driving force. As the weight of the product increases, there is a corresponding increase in the driving force supplied. As products stop, the segmented rollers beneath them also stop, creating very low backpressure accumulation and reducing product damage.
-->Project Overview:

Customer manufacturers rolls of paper and reinforced tape in sizes ranging from 1/2" to 23/4" wide and 33/4" to approximately 6” in diameter.
Customer ultimately wants rolls of tape from two slitters to be shrink- wrapped in single, 2-pack, 3-pack, 4-pack, and 6-pack quantities and then transported to a casepacker for bulk packing. Shuttleworth's system must either perform the functions or transport the rolls of tape to other equipment performing the functions required to make this possible.

Customer Objectives:

Have a highly automated system in which:

Tape can exit the slitters in two lanes and be divided/line balanced into six lanes for accumulation.

Reinforced tape must pass through duster/deduster tunnels (by others) after exiting Slitter #1 and non-reinforced tape must be able to by-pass the duster/deduster operation after exiting Slitter #1. An automated reject device must be in place for reinforced tape rolls stuck together upon exiting the duster.

Depending on the shrink-wrap package configuration being run, tape rolls may need to be stacked during the accumulation process. Single packs would not require stacking.

Accumulated tape rolls would then be released to the the shrink-wrap machine (by others) as needed.

After shrink-wrapping, the system must transport the packages through a labeling operation (by others) and ultimately to a casepacker (by others)for bulk packing.

The system must be configured to allow for future expansion (i.e., additional slitters, shrink-wrap machines, and casepackers).

The rolls of tape must transport smoothly and not stick to the conveyor surface.

Shuttleworth Solution:
The Shuttleworth solution consisted of a series of conveyor units performing various functions and designed to interface with future expansions. Slitter #1 can service either paper or reinforced tape, while slitter #2 services only paper tape.

Home

Applications

Markets we Serve

Products

Videos

Product Literature

Press

Upcoming Tradeshows

Contact Us

Site Map

German

French

Dutch

Spanish

All Contents Copyright © 2005 Shuttleworth, Inc.
